Yes, the US is supposed to ban around eight artificial food dyes. This ban discussion has been initiated by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who announced it on Tuesday. These food dyes are expected to have been used in various foods, such as candy, cereals, snacks, and beverages. Moreover, as per expert suggestion and RFK, these food dyes are also connected to neurological problems in children.

The officials in the US have announced that around two petroleum-based synthetic dyes will be phased out by the end of this week. At the same time, the others are suggested to phase out by the end of 2026.

Which Food Dyes are Banned?

According to FDA Commissioner Dr. Robert Califf, a plan is in place to ban two synthetic dyes, including Citrus Red No. 2 and Orange B.

Around six remaining petroleum-based food dyes, including FD&C Green No 3, FD&C Red No 40, FD&C Yellow No 5, FD&C Yellow No 6, FD&C Blue No 1 and FD&C Blue No 2, are set to be discarded from the food supply by the end of next year.
